I am recently back from East Africa, where I enjoyed the challenge of climbing the highest free-standing mountain in the world, Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, in support of children’s literacy programs offered by CODE (Canadian Organization for Development through Education). Our “Summit for Literacy” group of 16, which included a number of Canadian lawyers, have so far succeeded in raising close to our goal of $175,000 in support of CODE’s programs in Africa, and we are still hoping to reach our goal! I am so very grateful for the tremendous support I received from my colleagues and friends at Lerners. While enormously challenging, the climb was an adventure of a lifetime. I am so pleased I extended my trip so I would be able to join a smaller group that also travelled to rural Kenya to visit two schools supported by CODE. Meeting the students and seeing their libraries stacked with well-thumbed books that CODE was instrumental in delivering, was hugely rewarding and an equal highlight to reaching Mt Kilimanjaro’s summit!
