Lerners Partner Emily Y. Fan Wins Prestigious Lexpert “Rising Star” Award
As a partner and litigator in our Toronto office, Emily understands that success in private practice means providing “business first” and sophisticated client service. She has cultivated a strong client base by crafting creative, practical solutions responsive to client needs, while also demonstrating outstanding advocacy skills and sharp judgment in complex disputes.
Emily is invested in the firm’s success. Her personal and professional journeys have made her incredibly resilient, and attentive to what motivates people and businesses to flourish. Emily thrives in situations where she has the opportunity to move people, and herself, out of their comfort zones. This served her well when in January 2021, she assumed the mantle of Deputy Practice Group Head for our Commercial Litigation Group, leading the team through COVID and exceptionally challenging times.
While she is a known as a powerhouse in her practice, Emily believes that putting people first drives results, and always makes time to listen to, encourage, and coach young lawyers, serving as a mentor both inside and outside of the firm. She also has a long history of serving the community, from serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the Making Way Project, being a past member of the Board of Directors for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, and literally serving the community as a former weekend barista at Sorry Coffee in Toronto.
“Emily has distinguished herself at the firm, whether through her focus on providing exceptional client service, her dedication to championing young lawyers, or her work in the community. She brings thoughtful and innovative ideas to every conversation, whether on a file, at firm management meetings, or simply speaking with colleagues. We have had the privilege of benefitting from her legal and business acumen, and her fearless leadership”, says Anne Spafford, Managing Partner of Lerners’ Toronto office. “We at Lerners can all agree that she is a rising star, and we’re delighted to see that she has been recognized as such by the legal community as well.”
Presented annually by Lexpert, the “Rising Stars” awards celebrate lawyers under 40 from across Canada who are at the top of the legal profession — both within their offices and their local communities. Winners are selected by an advisory board of distinguished members of the legal community.
Congratulations to all winners!
