Lerners Welcomes New Articling Students in London and Toronto

We’re proud to announce the commencement of our 2022-2023 articling student program. We’ve welcomed ten new articling students to this year’s program and are excited to have them learn and experience working at a firm over the next twelve months. The selected students will gain valuable mentorship and practical experience, allowing them to discover the areas of law they’re most passionate about and build connections as they advance their careers. London Articling Students

Chioma Adiele

Chioma obtained her Masters of Law, Corporate Insolvency & Restructuring Law from Western, her Barrister-at-Law from The Nigerian Law School in Lagos, Nigeria and her Bachelor of Laws from Afe Babalola University in Ekiti, Nigeria. Her work experience includes being an Associate at Fidelis Oditah & Co and Country Hill Attorneys & Solicitors in Lagos, Nigeria. She also interned at Aluko & Oyebode in Lagos, Nigeria. Chioma has volunteered at Zara Women’s Initiative, Legal Aid Community Development Service Group in Lagos, and she is the Founder and Creative Director of Mirabelle Clothing. Chioma speaks basic French, enjoys hiking in Quebec and Ontario, event planning and listening to afrobeat and hip-hop.

Anita Osmani

Anita summered with us in 2021 and is a Windsor Law grad who holds an Honours B.A.: Specialization in History and Minor in Ethics from Western. Her work experience has varied from working at Real Canadian Superstore, being a Research Assistant with Windsor Yearbook of Access to Justice, to various roles at Royal Trust and RBC. She has volunteered with Windsor Law Society, been a peer mentor, a CJAM-FM Radio Host with Pro Bono Students Canada and numerous volunteer roles while at Western. Anita is fluent in Persian, plays golf and is an avid watcher of period pieces.

Santa Rabi

Santa is a Western Law grad who holds a DDS from the University of Toronto and a Master of Science from McMaster University, Faculty of Health Sciences. She was a summer law student at Scarfone Hawkins in Hamilton and a lecturer at U of T, Faculty of Dentistry. She was a Family Dentist at West Side Dental in Port Colborne and Oakville Dental in Oakville, as well as a Dental Research Assistant at U of T, Department of Dental Public Health. She was also both a Teaching and Research Assistant at McMaster. While at Western, she was a caseworker with Community Legal Services and volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada. She also provided free dental care to low-income families at The Dental Outreach and Community Service in Haliburton. Santa is fluent in Chaldean Neo-Aramaic, is a chess gold medalist, and enjoys hiking, sketching, solving puzzles and travelling.

Zoe Rajwani

Zoe summered with us in 2021 and is a Windsor Law grad, who holds a Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies, Honors Specialization in Accounting from Western. Their work experience includes being a Proctor and Marker at Odette School of Business at Windsor, a case worker at Legal Assistance of Windsor and a U.S. Tax Intern at Ernst & Young. They have also volunteered with the Windsor Review of Legal and Social Issues, V.P. Operations for OUTlaws (LGBTQ+ Law Club) at Windsor, Pro Bono Students Canada-Trans ID Clinic, held roles as V.P. Finance and President of Spectrum UWO (LGBTQ+ Club) Western, and as a Tax analyst at Western’s Income Tax Clinic. Zoe enjoys board games, has gone on two dog sledding adventures and can solve the Rubik’s cube in 30 seconds.

Sean Robson

Sean summered with us in 2021 and is a Law grad from Queen’s and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier. His work experience includes working as a networking specialist at Bell Canada, portfolio research manager at Costar Group, marketing assistant at SAS Institute and a leadership counsellor at Camp Big Canoe. He has also volunteered with Queen’s Law Private Equity Club, In Vino Veritas (Wine Club), Queen’s Law Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, Right to Play, London Foodbank and Laurier Foot Patrol and Laurier Peer Help Line. Sean played football (a big Buffalo Bills fan), baseball (Blue Jay’s fan), and he loves camping, canoeing, kayaking and white water rafting.

Waseem Shahatto

Waseem summered with us in 2021 and is a Western Law grad who holds a Bachelor of Arts, History from Western. His work experience includes working in roles from performer to operations manager at Al-Asala Dabke Group, an assistant at Urban Craft Homes, a teaching assistant (First Nations in Canadian History) at Western and a sales associate at Best Buy. He has volunteered as a caseworker at Community Legal Services Western, a curriculum design consultant at LIS Middle School and completed a Mindfulness Without Borders Certificate. He has intermediate proficiency in Arabic. Waseem is a dancer who enjoys reading the history of soccer and basketball tactics and discovering the best local sandwich shops.

Toronto Articling Students

Miranda Brar

Miranda is a Law grad from Osgoode Hall Law School, holds a Paralegal Diploma from Canadian Business College and an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto. She has worked at Community and Legal Aid Services Program, volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada and CLASP, and completed a Paralegal work placement with Scott Pearl, Barrister & Solicitor. Miranda has Grad 10 Piano, enjoys reading and hiking, has varying degrees of fluency in Urdu, Punjabi and Farsi and is learning French.

Vanshika Dhawan

Vanshika is a Law grad from the University of Toronto, holds a Master of Professional Communication from Ryerson University and an Honours Bachelor of Medical Science from Western University. She was a Policy Analyst with the Public Health Agency of Canada, Office of Regulatory Affairs, externed with David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights and was a Summer Student with AMAPCEO. She was also a student caseworker with Advocates for Injured Workers and was a Legislative Assistant with the Ontario Legislative Assembly. She’s been a Teaching Assistant at both U of T and Ryerson and was a Communications Assistant at Ryerson. Vanshika speaks Hindi and varying levels of French, Urdu and Punjabi. She loves musical theatre, having held various crew roles, and is a published writer and a former competitive slam poet.

Monika Steger

Monika is a Law grad from Lakehead University, holds an Honours Bachelor of Science, Life Sciences and English Minor from Queen’s University and a Certificate in Law from Queen’s. She was a Summer Law Student at Canadian Centre for Elder Law, a Teaching and Research Assistant at Lakehead, a Summer Law Student at Nijhawan McMillan Petrunia in Halifax and a Program Assistant at the Ontario Society of Senior Citizens Organizations in Toronto. She’s also volunteered at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and the Kingston General Hospital. Monika enjoys basketball, tennis, yoga, hiking, and running in the Sporting Life 10K and Hawaii New Year’s 10K; she enjoys reading WWII novels and is a Raptors and Leafs’ fan.

Aucha Stewart

Aucha is a Law grad from the University of Windsor and holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts, Law and Socio-Legal Studies from York University. He is the sole proprietor of Cloud 9 Construction, Drywall Taping, in Toronto. He was a Research Assistant at Windsor Law Centre for Cities and York University, a Security Guard for several companies, a Sales Associate at Sporting Life, and a Peer Mentor at Boys 2 Men Leadership Program in Toronto. Aucha was President of the Black Law Students Association Windsor Chapter, volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada and was an active mooter at Windsor. He enjoys drawing, painting, road trips and hitting a few balls at the driving range.
