Top 5 Civil Appeals and the Top 5 Ontario Apples

Dated: September 20, 2017

As a parent of school-aged children, September always reminds me of an old t.v. commercial for school supplies that has the song “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” playing in the background.

To mark the transition into this happy time – whether it’s back to school or just beautiful fall weather – this month’s netletter author, Angus McKinnon, brings you his top 5 picks from the Court of Appeal’s decisions released in July and August. These deal with a number of issues from summary judgment motions, in cases arising from a serious injury during a game of tug-of-war, an alleged agreement between insurers, the purchase of properties including a petting zoo, and a commercial tenancy dispute. Rounding out the top 5 cases is the Court of Appeal’s latest guidance regarding r. 2.1.01.
Angus also settles the long-simmering debate over the best Ontario apples, with his 5 favourites.
