International Women's Day

International Women’s Day, Thursday, March 8th, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and acknowledging the challenges they continue to face in the quest for gender equality. International Women’s Day is not country, group or organization specific. The day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.

With the World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report findings telling us that gender parity is over 200 years away – there has never been a more important time to keep motivated! This year’s theme is #PressforProgress

In recognition of International Women’s Day, Lerners is pleased to announce that our Diversity and Inclusion Committee is hosting Delee Fromm on Wednesday, March 7th, to speak to firm members about her book, “Understanding Gender at Work: How to Lose, Use and Expose Blind Spots for Career Success”. Using neuroscience, Delee will explain how gender blind spots automatically arise and how they can manifest as bias in the workplace. She will also provide practical advice and tools to expose and reduce gender bias. Different communication styles will be explored from a gendered perspective and each attendee will be able to explore his/her communication styles in an interactive session.

She is presenting in person over the noon hour at our Toronto office which we are videoconferencing for firm members at our London office.

You can find out more information about Delee, her books, and her blogs below or watch Delee Fromm: Understanding Gender at Work.

In addition to hosting Delee, Lerners is asking firm members to wear something purple on March 8th to show their support as well as to consider donating gently-used professional clothes to allow women opportunities to make a good first impression as they try to enter or return to the workforce.

For the entire month of March, firm members are encouraged to donate either through Toronto’s “Dress for Success Toronto” or London’s “Clothing Works”. If you are interested in making your own clothing contribution or you wish to make a monetary donation, check out their websites for more information.

Lerners LLP is committed to taking purposeful action while collaborating with members of its community in support of equality.

Happy International Women’s Day!
